Microsoft to Launch Windows Mobile 6.5 on May 11
While it's coming earlier than expected, we're still not all that jazzed about the release date announcement for Windows Mobile 6.5. Aren't we all just waiting for Windows Mobile 7, anyway? Still, we'll try to act excited for decorum's sake ... woohoo...
Okay, okay, we'll admit it: 6.5 is significantly better than 6.1 for phones, but that's not saying much. The latest version will have a nicer navigation setup and will feature plaid backgrounds. At least, that's all we could really glean from Microsoft's hype and Gian's presentation at CTIA. Microsoft is trying to hype the launch too by offering 5 Samsung BlackJack II phones to attendees of the Tech Ed conference where the 6.5 launch will be made official. All this happens on May 11.
Don't think this means you'll be able to just go out and download WinMo 6.5 onto your phone, though. There are only a few phones that will be capable of handling the 6.5 upgrade. In reality, you'll just have to wait for manufacturers to start shipping phones with WinMo 6.5 already installed before you can play with it. And who knows how long that will take.
