PROS / The apple iPhone 3GS multimedia cell phone provides a visual voicemail feature.
CONS / The Apple iPhone 3GS only has 8GB of internal memory and a shorter battery life than other smartphones.
VERDICT / The integrated iPod and organizational features make the Apple iPhone 3G a top-notch phone.
Multitasking, listening to music, taking photos and sorting through hundreds of apps are all possible using the Apple iPhone 3GS. This multimedia phone has a simple user interface, music player and responsive 3.5-inch display. This phone makes it possible for you to enhance your entertainment experience with just a few taps and finger movements. However, Apple now has a newer version of the iPhone on the market.
The display on this multimedia cell phone is not as jaw dropping as the one on Apple’s iPhone 4, but the iPhone 3GS offers a few stunning features. This multimedia cell phone features a 3.5-inch multi-touch display. The multi-touch capability is a feature we enjoyed because it allows you to control all the commands by pinching, flicking or swiping your fingers on the screen. The display has a resolution of 480 x 320 pixels. The device weighs 4.8 ounces, which is light.
The Apple iPhone 3GS is designed with organization and efficiency in mind. There are folders on the menu screens that allow you to organize your apps and favorite features so you don't have to search through multiple menu screens looking for an application. The device also has a search function that allows you to search for any file, app or image on both your iPhone and the internet.
The Apple iPhone 3GS multimedia cell phone's keyboard also caught our eye. The keyboard features smart keys that appear large on the 3.5-inch display screen to help improve accuracy and usability. We weren’t able to type at an extremely fast pace, but the Apple iPhone 3GS’ keyboard made it possible to type at a decent speed with few mistakes.
One call feature we found especially useful and beneficial is its visual voicemail. If you miss a call and receive a voicemail message, you will see it displayed in a list that is similar to an email inbox. You can then choose which voicemail you want to listen to first, and in which order you want to hear the rest of the messages, if you want to hear them at all.
The Apple iPhone 3GS multimedia cell phone has a comparatively short battery life for all the features included on the device. This iPhone model provides up to five hours of talk time on 3G and up to 300 hours of standby time. If you use the internet, you can get up to five hours on a 3G network, 10 hours of video playback and 30 hours of audio playback.
One of the biggest drawbacks to this device is that it only has 8GB of memory. Apple discontinued all previous 3G iPhones with more memory after the release of the Apple iPhone 4. The Apple iPhone 3GS only comes with 8GB.
The music capabilities are one of the most advanced features on this device, which is to be expected since Apple is the creator of the iPod and the overall master of MP3 players, iTunes. The iPod capabilities on this device are similar to a standard iPod. You can play music, create playlists and even download and watch videos. You can also access the iTunes Store directly on your phone so you can download exactly what you want to listen to or watch immediately.
This iPhone includes a 3MP (megapixel) camera, with which we were disappointed. While the camera is user friendly and has decent functions overall, we were disappointed that it is a measly 3MP camera. This level of resolution isn’t terrible, but the camera does not work well in low-light situations, and many competing phones have cameras with much better resolutions. However, this camera does record video at up to 30 frames per second. The video recorder also captures audio. You can focus the camera with just a tap of your finger.
Although this device has a few drawbacks such as a short battery life and no option for expanding its memory, the Apple iPhone 3GS is a feature-filled device. The integrated iPod and video recorder are just two of its many features that enhance its stunning mobile media capabilities. It may be a little outdated, but it will still perform many of the functions the newer version offers.
