The LG Vortex is a multimedia phone that runs on the 3G network. However, this phone lacks many of the common features you'll find on other comparable phones such as Adobe Flash on your browser. It's also missing a flash with its camera, and the camera itself doesn't have as many megapixels as other phones we reviewed.
This is a compact-sized cellular phone. The dimensions of the LG Vortex are 2.32 x 4.47 x 0.52 inches. This is a small phone that also has a smaller screen, at 3.2 inches diagonally. For movie watching and looking at photos, you may find that it's a bit too small. It's also light, at 4.44 ounces. Of all the multimedia cell phones we reviewed, this is one of the lightest.
The LG Vortex has a touchscreen and a virtual QWERTY keyboard. The phone is smaller and lighter because it doesn't have a physical keyboard. This touchscreen responds well to your touch. It keeps up with your finger as you move it across the screen.
The basic call features are included on the LG Vortex, such as call holding, call waiting and conference calling. A speakerphone is available on the device, though we noticed that it was difficult to hear at times. We were pleased to see that the number of contacts available on the multimedia cell phone is not based on the amount of available integrated memory, but instead on the space available on the microSD card. There is a text-to-speech feature that will read the text written on your display screen aloud for you. This is ideal if you are driving a car or if you're someplace where you can't keep your eyes on your display screen.
We were very impressed with the battery life on this multimedia cell phone. You can talk on the LG Vortex for 7.5 hours with a single battery charge. One battery charge gives you 500 hours of standby time when your phone is on but not in use. This long battery life makes it possible for you to enjoy the phone's multimedia features all day without having to worry about charging the device or carrying a charger around with you.
The LG Vortex multimedia cell phone could use more memory. There's only 2GB of memory pre-installed on this multimedia device. If you don't store many photos or much music, you'll probably be fine; however, if you do, this will be a huge drawback. If you do need more memory for storing your music and other files, you can insert up to a 32GB microSD memory card in the phone's memory-card slot.
A 3.2MP (megapixel) camera comes on the LG Vortex, which features several shooting modes such as continuous shot, smile shot and cartoon. You can also use color effects such as negative, polarize, sepia or blue. Video capture and playback is available, with the ability to shoot video with a pixel resolution of 640x480, 320x240 or 176x144. The video player supports WMV, MP4 and 3G2 formats.
The LG Vortex does not offer many advanced features or technology, but it does provide the basics. It's easy enough to use that an individual who is new to multimedia cell phone technology would be able to pick it up and use it, no problem.
The LG Vortex only weighs 4.44 ounces, making it one of the lightest phones we reviewed.
This multimedia cell phone features a 3.2-inch display screen, which is somewhat small for movie watching.
You're not going to find fancy features on this phone, but you can still use it to watch movies, surf the web and take photos.
