While the Samsung Behold doesn’t have an operating system, this touch screen multimedia cell phone includes a lot of similar features from many of the popular smartphones.

Standout Features
• 3-inch touchscreen
• Accelerometer
• 5 MP 4X zoom camera
• Virtual QWERTY keyboard
• MicroSD memory card slot

Features

The Behold features a vibrant 3-inch touch screen with a 400x240 pixel resolution. The interface has adjustable tactile feedback (vibration) to aid in typing. Since the entire face of the phone is the touch screen, text entry is accomplished using the virtual QWERTY keyboard. Just like the Samsung Omnia, the Behold uses the proprietary TouchWiz interface which provides 16 icons, called widgets to customize your screen with your most important applications such as a browser, contacts, calendar, games, and multimedia. While 16 is a fairly liberal number, you’re limited to just those preinstalled widgets.

Like the iPhone, the Behold utilizes an accelerometer to control the display’s orientation. When the phone is held upright it displays in portrait mode but when it’s tilted to either side, the screen image rotates to landscape mode.

The Behold also uses proximity and ambient light sensors similar to the iPhone. The proximity sensor automatically turns off the display when you put the phone to your ear preventing inadvertent touches. The ambient light sensor brightens the display when you’re using the device in strong light such as sunlight or a brightly-lit room and dims the display in darker locations.

The Behold has a fully fleshed out 5 MP camera with 4x zoom, auto focus and a flash. It takes pictures in four different resolutions and has many different editing controls, six scene settings, four color effects, brightness and white balance, an anti-shake feature and a setting for shooting backlit subjects. There is also three different shooting modes: continuous, panorama and mosaic. It also has video capture ability. Rounding out the impressive list of camera features is the “smile shot” mode that detects a smile and will retake the photo if the subject’s smile disappears before the picture is taken.

Although the camera is over-the-top, the music player is pretty average with the standard options such as playlist creation, shuffle and repeat along with various equalizer settings. The music sounds best when listened to with headphones.

Other features on the Behold include Bluetooth capability, assisted GPS and turn-by-turn directions, strong battery talk time of up to 5 hours and 180 MB of built-in memory with a MicroSD slot that takes up to an 8GB card. The phone also includes a full web browser and various vital organizational tools including: texting—both text only and multimedia messages, a calendar, calculator, notepad, task list, alarm and world clocks, timer, stopwatch and a currency/unit converter.

Summary of Reviews from Across the Internet

No WiFi is a baffling omission for a phone that has even a mediocre full web browser. Users are a bit disappointed that the OS prevents you from loading third-party applications,

Users are pleased with the multimedia functionality on the Samsung Behold—the Windows Media Player is instantly recognizable to most users.

Summary

The Behold is packed with a lot of great elements that are available in the high end smartphones. If you purchase the phone through the authorized carrier, T-Mobile, the price point makes this a great cell phone for users who don’t want to deal with the cost or intricacies of a smartphone but are looking for lots of options.
