Analysts Say Palm Pre Launch Is a Success, 50,000 Sold

We were a little worried by the reports of shortages and minimal numbers of Pre smartphones in stock at Sprint stores. But it appears all went well for the little-phone-that-could last weekend.
Analysts from Piper Jaffray and J.P. Morgan said that the Pre launch was a success and that most of the Sprint stores sold out. While there are no solid numbers, initial estimates are that Sprint sold between 50,000 and 60,000 Pres over the weekend. Not bad at all for a company struggling to stay relevant in a smartphone world.
Obviously, this kind of success means we can probably look for restocked shelves soon as Palm ramps up production. We'll have to wait a little longer for consumer feedback to see how well the Palm Pre has been received. Already there are some reports screen problems popping up on forums, but nothing disastrous has happened so far.
