Android App Shows You What's on Store Shelves
Today the developers "Big in Japan" announced an improvement in their award-winning application, ShopSavvy. Leveraging a relationship with the online shopping comparison search site Krillion, the Android-powered application provides an accurate picture of product stock at local major retailers. This enables users to see not only who carries the product but also who has it in stock.ShopSavvy was one of the top winners in Google's 2008 Android Developer Challenge. The app provides valuable product pricing and supply information for shoppers using the G1 smartphone's camera and location-aware capabilities.
The user simply scans a product's bar code and the app uses the GPS in the phone to determine the local major retailers then it checks their inventory. The app displays a list of businesses, both local and online, that sell said product along with their contact info and directions. The app also maintains a search history so that you don't forget any great deals.
You can even create wish lists of the products you search and send them to family and friends in hopes that they will purchase something really cool for your birthday/festive holiday or just because they like you. In today's economy, this free application is all about the consumer. Check out the (corny) video for the scoop on ShopSavvy.
While the only Android-powered smartphone currently available is the G1 through T-Mobile, there are several new Android phones expected in 2009. Curious about T-Mobile's G1? Check the smartphone review site for more info.
