The world of cellphone rumors can be a murky place because of all the different codenames companies use to identify the same phone. Take, for example, the HTC Leo. It’s probably the HTC Firestone we’ve heard about (and drooled over) earlier, but it’s not a sure deal.

Either way, the spec list for the Leo is pretty impressive. Of course, the biggest attraction is the Snapdragon processor. 1Ghz, I want it. I want it now.

Here’s the full spec list:

  • Quad-band GSM/EDGE connectivity
  • Dual-band HSDPA connectivity (900/2100 MHz)
  • 4.3-inch WVGA (480 x 800) capacitive touchscreen display
  • Windows Mobile 6.5
  • Qualcomm 1GHz MSM 8250 Snapdragon processor
  • Wi-Fi
  • GPS, A-GPS
  • Accelerometer
  • Light & proximity sensors
  • 3.5mm headset jack
  • 5 megapixel auto-focus camera with dual LED flash
  • 512MB flash memory, 320MB RAM
  • MicroSD card support
  • 1230 mAh battery
  • 121 x 67 x 11 millimeters

One of the big questions about the phone is if it will run Windows Mobile, mostly because the current version is incompatible with capacitive screens (which the Leo has). Many people are speculating that Windows Mobile 6.5 will work with capacitive touchscreens and the Leo will come out as soon as Q3 when WinMo 6.5 is released. That may be a little too optimistic, but it’s still within reason. Additionally, the Firestone rumors said the phone would run WinMo 6.5.

The biggest reason why there is still doubt whether Leo = Firestone is the difference in screen size. The Firestone rumors indicated a 3.6-inch screen whereas the Leo is reported to have a 4.3-inch screen. I realize that’s a little less than an inch of difference, but in the world of touchscreen phones, that’s miles.
