iPhone Sells Well Despite Launch Problems, Apple Gives Store Credit for the Trouble

Apple had a busy weekend, not only did they move over one million new iPhone 3GS phones, but they also spent a lot of time working the customer service phones. From nearly 96 hours to activation for some users to a high-pitched ringing, the iPhone 3GS launch has had a few hiccups.
It's impressive that any company can get the kind of hype over a new device like Apple does with every single iPhone launch. Rivaling last year's iPhone craze, Apple sold just more than one million iPhone 3GS models in the three days after its launch. That is impressive. On top of that, six million people downloaded the new iPhone 3.0 software. On the whole, Apple had a pretty successful week.
But of course, as always, there were some problems. What would you do without your phone for 72 hours? I imagine that this would be especially hard for iPhone users - with all those apps and tools on there, it's easy to live life through this device. So not having it available for even a few days would seem like a lifetime. But I digress. Apparently for some users the normally instantaneous activating of their phones still hasn't happened. That means some people have gone several days now without their phone because of the overwhelming number of users trying to activate their new devices during the same three-day period. I imagine it can get kind of hectic.
But, for those poor souls stranded without service to their smartphone, Apple is not forgetting them. Starting today they'll receive an iTunes store credit for $30 ... It might just be enough to keep some of these new customers from throwing in the bag and entirely giving up after a less than desirable first few days with their new phone.
Other than that, the problems have been fairly smooth. Some of the new phones emit a high pitched ringing noise apparently set off when users unlock the phone ... but apparently it hasn't been bad enough that people have started throwing the phones at the wall to make the ringing stop ... at least, not that we've heard.
