Late Night with Palm Pre
The Palm Pre stopped by Late Night with Jimmy Fallon last night, with Engadget's Joshua Topolsky in tow, and put on a little exclusive show that's actually a pretty nice primer on just what the Palm Pre can do. Click through to watch the video. This little interview does a nice job of showing just how versatile the Palm Pre's operating system is. The touchscreen was so responsive and the card navigation system looked spectacularly smooth. And the web browser actually looks pretty fast for a smartphone (okay, granted it was just Wikipedia and it was most certainly broadband wireless, but if you're looking for pictures of Jimmy Fallon in a bathrobe, I guess it's perfect). We're really excited to see this smartphone in the wild.
The inevitable question came up, will it be the iPhone killer, and Topolsky sidestepped the question nicely. It seems everybody wants that comparison to be implicit, never mentioning it outright. Well, except for Palm investor Roger McNamee's assertion that iPhone users will flee to the Palm Pre, but nobody seems to be backing him up. The Palm Pre is currently scheduled for a late June release.
We're excited to see something like the Palm Pre make it onto late night TV. Traditionally late night has been reserved for TV, movie and music stars, so it's good to see some tech geeks get some screen time. It seems especially important considering how much electronics affect our everyday lives and how much they drive the consumer market. Hopefully Jimmy Fallon will be giving some more attention to tech and gaming issues in the future.
