Motorola Accidentally Confirms the Droid Phone with Specs
Even though we’ve seen leaked images and some early reviews of the Motorola Droid (formerly the Motorola Sholes) Android smartphone, Motorola has been very careful to keep it a secret. The promotional campaign has been showing up everywhere, but it only shows a glowing red eye. Now Motorola has unveiled the Droid in all its glory, but not on purpose.
The company accidentally posted the Droid page on their site today. It was hastily taken down but not before some clever people caught some video and pics of the phone. Read on for the full rundown on the device.
Android enthusiasts will be excited to know that the site confirms the Motorola Droid will be running Android 2.0, often called the Éclair version. Since Éclair hasn’t officially been released yet, it’s a good bet that Google will be releasing the Éclair update at the same time the Droid hits shelves.
The other specs for the phone are illuminating, if not downright exciting. The touchscreen is 3.7 inches diagonally, with a 16:9 ratio and 480 x 854 pixel resolution. That alone should make the phone look inviting because the screen will look so crisp. The built-in camera seems pretty standard, 5MP with 4x digital zoom, autofocus and dual LED flash.
While the processor is a bit of an improvement, we were hoping for something more. It runs at 550MHz, which will make it faster than other Android phones on the market, at least. One of the nice touches in the device is the inclusion of a 16GB microSD card with the device. Most phones just offer a slot and tell you to go get your own darn card.
Other specs of interest include: 1400mAH Li-ion battery (Moto says that gives 385 minutes of talk time and 270 hours of standby), Bluetooth, WiFi, micro USB port and the slide out keyboard. BGR caught screenshots of every last spec, so if you want to know more than that, head over to their gallery. Personally, I’d recommend just watching this video someone caught of the Droid rotating and looking pretty. It’s so much more entertaining.
