Smartphones have a reputation for being delicate. With one bad fall, you can be stuck with a very costly repair or replacement. Fortunately, the Motorola Droid Razr HD addresses this issue with its tough design. In addition to its durable exterior, this smartphone is one of the best Android phones on the market, easily securing our TopTenREVIEWS Bronze Award.

The standout feature of the Motorola Droid Razr HD is its tank-like exterior. With its DuPont Kevlar fiber and Corning Gorilla Glass, your smartphone will take a beating without flinching. Beyond its tough shell, the phone can withstand splashes. Naturally, you won't want to go swimming with this phone, but if you're trapped outside during a rainstorm, your phone will continue to work when you get home.

The phone saves space by removing the Home buttons from the case and making them digital. While this design will take getting used to, it makes the phone look much sleeker. The only flaw we found with the Droid Razr HD is its weight. At just over five ounces, you feel the armored exterior with every use.

Like most phones, taking pictures reminds you that the Motorola Droid Razr HD was not designed to be a camera. Despite its 8MP rear camera, the pictures turn out grainy. Outdoors, the picture and video looks good enough to share, but indoors, this picture cannot deliver the quality you want.

Fortunately, the 4.7-inch 720p touchscreen delivers beautiful HD video. The screen is bright and crystal clear. A built-in YouTube app downloads desired HD videos while in standby mode. Then, when you're ready to watch the video, you'll find they are installed onto your phone so you can view them with no buffer times or added data usage. Creating media may not be this phone's strong point, but its HD screen will make watching videos a pleasure.

The battery in the Droid Razr HD rivals many laptop computers. With up to seven hours of HD video watching, this phone will handle long commutes and full workdays without needing a charge. The Droid Razr HD comes equipped with an unfortunately small 16GB of storage space, only 12GB of which are available for you to download files. The storage space is expandable with a memory card, but you'll find yourself downloading apps and games that will easily push your phone to the limit of its storage capacity.

The Motorola Droid Razr HD comes equipped with the Android 4.0 operating system, but it is ready for an upgrade to 4.1. Also, many fun apps are built into the phone. These apps are designed to take advantage of the phone's fast 4G speeds and impressive battery life. Android Beam uses the phone's near-field communication to let you transmit information from your phone to another. Also, Google Chrome syncs with your desktop computer, saving your bookmarks and even tabs to make surfing just as fluid on the go as it is at home.

All of this is backed up by a dual-core, 1.5GHz processor, making your cell phone faster than some computers. Although the Droid Razr HD is a phone first, it's got enough muscle under the hood to power all your surfing and downloading needs.

Motorola Droid Razr HD Summary:
9.7/10

The Motorola Droid Razr HD is a tank of a smartphone. With its ultra-durable design, you can count on this phone to take a beating and continue to work well. Great call quality and fantastic additional features back up the tough design. The internal storage space alone will not be able to support heavy usage, and the phone is heavier than many other smartphones. Fortunately, the sleek and beautiful internal and external design makes it one of the best smartphones available.
