Yesterday was certainly an interesting (and productive) day for the
T-Mobile G1 phone. The Little Phone that Could received fanfare for two new developments in its capabilities: Flash and multitouch.
Are you drooling too?
Here's the details. Some innovators proved that the G1 and the Android OS are
capable of handling multitouch gestures with a little alteration. The speculation is that Google/HTC didn't include this functionality (or at least didn't advertise it) because of worries about copyright infringement on Apple's multitouch patents.
Whatever the reason, there's sure to be quite a few mods available in the near future offering you the option to use two fingers instead of one to do the same things you did before. And we'll all be happier for it.
Another piece of news is also causing quite a bit of hysteria for us G1 fans: Flash-capable G1s will be able to surf the Flash-ridden internet of today better than most
other smartphones. Adobe
announced that an Android-based version of Flash will soon be ready. This means that not only will the G1 be able to handle Flash, but so will anything else that uses Android.
I need to go lie down for a minute; all the excitement is making me dizzy. While I'm gone, you can check out the
reviews of the best smartphones and a few other hysteria-inducing blog posts:
