Palm Pre Official Release Date and Price from Sprint

It's been a long time coming with a lot of speculation, some accurate, some less than accurate, but Sprint has finally hushed all the rumors with an official announcement of the Palm Pre release date and pricing.
Sprint confirmed that the Palm Pre would be available on June 6 and cost $199.99. Of course, there's a catch: that price only comes after signing up for a 2-year contract (naturally) AND a $100 mail-in rebate. Boo! Mail-in rebates are just an excuse to not take the price down to where we all know it should be. It's the 21st century, Sprint, we're all aware of the mail-in rebate scheme by now.
Obviously, Sprint knows that a mail-in rebate isn't going to stop people from getting the Pre. It probably won't stop us either *grumble*. If you're looking to spend even more money on accessories, Sprint will be offering the Touchstone charging dock kit for $70, which includes the $50 dock and a $20 back cover for the Pre.
It does appear as if our prediction was true, namely that Sprint is trying to steal the thunder of the iPhone announcement by launching a couple days before. Sneaky, sneaky.
