Sony Ericsson Announces XPERIA X10 Android Phone with Rachael Interface

With all the Android phones being announced and released lately, you could almost call this the season of Android. Sony Ericsson must think ‘tis the season because they just made their own Android phone, the XPERIA X10, official with specs and some flashy promo video. I have to say, Android never looked this good.
We’ve been following the XPERIA X10 previously as the Sony Ericsson Rachael, which has been teased in leaks for months. There are a few reasons why this phone is such a big deal. First of all, it will be using the 1GHz Snapdragon processor, which should make it one of the fastest Android phones on the market. Next, it has an enormous (for a phone) 4-inch capacitive touchscreen display. We haven’t seen anything like it since HTC announced the HD2.
The Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 will also be running Android, but don’t get too excited; it will be running the Android 1.6 (Donut) operating system instead of the newer Android 2.0 (Éclair) announced for the Motorola Droid. However, this Android phone should still be and incredible experience thanks to the Rachael interface Sony Ericsson built on top of the Android interface. Basically, it makes Android much more media and socially oriented so you can easily use the phone to do the things you want.
Of course, it’s not perfect. The huge screen doesn’t support multitouch gestures. It also doesn’t have internal storage, though it comes with an 8GB MicroSD card. Fortunately, there are a host of other good specs to counteract the bad. That includes an 8.1MP camera with face recognition, Bluetooth stereo and media player, a WebKit web browser (woohoo!), Microsoft Exchange, video streaming, GPS, 3.5mm headphone jack, Micro USB connector and a 480 x 854 pixel screen resolution. Pretty nice.
The XPERIA X10 If the specs aren’t enough to intrigue you, you could always try to let the flashy marketing and pretty girls in the promo video below convince you is “all that” or “the new thing” or “the cool cat” or whatever lame expression of awesomeness marketing teams what you to use these days.
