T-Mobile Launching Cupcake Update for G1 in April
The UK branch of T-Mobile announced that they would be launching the long-awaited firmware update for the popular T-Mobile G1 handset in April. This update, dubbed "Cupcake," has been talked about for months, but this is the first solid information we've heard about the release date.
Of course, there has been no word from the U.S. branch of T-Mobile about a possible release of Cupcake in America at the same time, although T-Mobile has said the U.S. version would be coming in the "near future."
G1 enthusiasts have been anxiously awaiting the Cupcake update because it will add a lot of functionality to the handset that was missing at launch. Some improvements include an onscreen keyboard (to supplement the physical one), video recording, voice recording, stereo Bluetooth and the ability to save MMS attachments.
Some experts feel the Cupcake update will coincide with the release of the HTC Magic (a.k.a. the G2) which will automatically come with Cupcake. There is no confirmation for this speculation, though.
