AndroidGuys have leaked some new specs on the new and much anticipated Google Android Phone. This isn't speculation anymore, apparently this is exactly what the G1 Android phone from T-Mobile will look like.

Instead of answering some questions about the long-awaited Android phone, these G1 specs actually bring up a lot of new questions.

First off, what's up with the angled end, affectionately called a "chin" but technically labeled as a "kicktail." This particular term gets my fingers excited for a feature not yet revealed: fingerboarding! Not sure what my pants pocket will call it, though it will certainly lead to awkward bulges.

Oh, and the slide mechanism is an "arc slider screen." Again, my fingers are anxious to experience this for themselves. But why does it only take up a portion of the phone, leaving a "chin" and a...trackball? I'll be interested to see what kind of navigation interface this thing uses. Maybe the "chin" allows the phone to utilize the Android software to maximum capacity. And maybe it's just a gimmick.

Kind of like putting "With Google" on the back of the phone.

But these questions don't hamper the feelings of elation at finally knowing facts about the Android phone instead of relying on speculation. Let's take a look at some specific new speculation specifications, specifically:

  • 2048 x 1536 pictures from the 3.1MP camera (no flash)

  • Dedicated YouTube Player

  • OGG Audio playback files added with MP3, AAC, AAC+, WMA, MPEG4, WAV, MIDI, REAL AUDIO,

  • GTALK messaging joins AIM, MSN, and YAHOO

  • Quad Band (850, 900, 1800, 1900)

  • 3G

  • 802.11b & 802.11g

  • UMTS (1,4), HSDPA, SUPL

  • 1150mAh battery

  • Screen size is 3.17? with HVGA (480 x 320)

  • Handset 117 x 55 x 16mm

  • 5.6 oz weight

  • Sync capable with Google Calendar

  • Downloadable content via Android Marketplace

If you've been keeping up with every rumored spec already, these will look familiar, but here are the specs we already knew about one more time:

  • 528Mhz Qualcomm 7201 processor

  • Data kit for USB connectivity in the box

  • 64MB Internal RAM

  • 128MB Internal ROM

  • 1GB MicroSD card

  • 5 Row QWERTY keypad

  • Trackball

  • Dedicated camera button

  • Video playback files - H.264, streaming, 3GPP, MPEG4, and Codec 3GP

  • Wallpaper supports JPG, BMP, PNG, and GIF

  • Speakerphone (mono, natch)

  • Ringtones (MP3, AAC, AAC+, WMA)

  • HTTP, WAP Push, xHTML

  • Bluetooth (class 1)

  • Picture Caller ID

  • SMS and MMS support

  • POP, IMAP, and SMTP, AOL, and GMAIL email

The amazing Google phone will weigh about the same as the i-mate Jaq3, .9 oz more than the iPhone 3G (for your information, this disqualifies the G1 from competing as an official Boy Scout Pinewood Derby Car.

Screen is 3.7 inches, and phone can take 2048 x 1536 pictures (28 X21). As far as we know, the projected date for the G1 going on sale hasn't changed.

With a trackball, sliding arc and kicktail, the G1 should have plenty of fun things to keep your fingers busy. Twiddling your thumbs is archaic.
