Wal-Mart Will Sell T-Mobile G1
Just in time for early holiday shopping, Wal-Mart has announced that it will begin selling the T-Mobile G1 smartphone at a reduced cost of $148.88 on Wednesday, October 29th. That price is available for new customers who sign a 2-year contract as well as for existing T-Mobile customers who are eligible for an upgrade. T-Mobile offers the high-tech device with the same contract conditions for $179.99.
Wal-Mart will initially sell the G1 in 550 stores in areas where T-Mobile's advanced 3G network is available. Wal-Mart has plans to expand the number of stores carrying the phone as the network grows.
The T-Mobile G1 is the first of the much anticipated Google phones to reach the market using the Android operating system. It is manufactured by Taiwanese electronic giant HTC and before being picked up by T-Mobile, was know as the HTC Dream. The device is often compared to smartphones, including the Apple iPhone and BlackBerry smartphones. Its most notable physical feature is a 3.2 inch touch screen and a full QWERTY keyboard with a trackball.
