Could You Get the BlackBerry Storm for Free?

If you live in the United Kingdom, the answer is yes, you can get a free BlackBerry Storm (with the obligatory service contract, of course, but you saw that coming). In the United States, however, the story is a little different.

But still enticing!

The yet-to-be-released BlackBerry Storm is expected to be heavily subsidized when it comes out this holiday season. Some analysts are expecting it to be priced as low as $99, though nothing is official yet.

The iPhone has stolen the show in the cell phone market over the past year, and especially in the last few months since the iPhone 3G was released. Verizon is looking to take back some of the excitement (and marketshare) with BlackBerry's new touchscreen phone. Nobody is really expecting an iPhone killer, but at the right price (please be free, pleasepleaseplease) the Storm could be a big win for Verizon.

Of course, BlackBerry would be elated as well, as they're desperately trying to shed the image of business phone manufacturer and get in on the consumer hype over smartphones created by the iPhone.

Personally, I don't care about their motives; I just want free touchscreeniness. C'mon Verizon!
