iPhone at Walmart and Iphone for $99, No Relation
The iPhone nano leapt from rumor to fake knockoffs, and the iPhone Pro/Elite is still just fan photoshop. But the rumors of a $99 iPhone and a Walmart iPhone are true, just not synonymous. Indeed, as of yesterday, Walmart is an official iPhone distributor. And bargain shoppers can find a sub-$100 iPhone, but not at a one-stop-shopping superstore. AT&T is actually boasting the lowest price, on refurbished iPhones.Walmart
The Apple/Walmart price negotiation didn't get too far, with the 8GB iPhone 3G going for $197, and the 16GB version priced at $297. You may want to check them out while you're returning your unwanted Christmas items (or in my case, wanted, but just not in bulk quantities) to the retailer that's known for accepting just about anything (but you didn't hear it from me).
AT&T
Though the company has been doing well with their "More Bars in More Places" slogan, they could borrow the old "Always Low Prices" motto from Walmart for a time, at least in light of their current iPhone prices. Refurbished, "unused or lightly used" iPhone 3G's are going for $99 and $199 (8GB and 16GB, respectively) from now until the end of the year (or while supplies last). Of course you'll need to take the 2-year contract into consideration, but we'll let you and AT&T work that one out.
Whether you go for a new iPhone at Walmart, or a gently used one from AT&T, you're definitely going to want to check out our new iPhone apps reviews, and a few more related blog posts:
