Mossberg Confirms New iPhone to be Announced Next Week

Rumors continue to swell building up to the start of Apple's WWDC next week and we have mixed emotions about some of them. It's all but been confirmed as a fact that a new iPhone is coming and coming soon, we thought it wouldn't happen until next month but the latest fairly solid info we've gotten seems to point to this month. And, rumors are still flying around the $99 iPhone. That one we don't believe so much, follow the jump to find out why.



Walt Mossberg of the Wall Street Journal has an "in" with Apple, so when he drops anything Apple related, especially something that may or may not confirm the rumors, it's time to drop everything and listen. In his review of the Palm Pre Gizmodo notes he mentioned a new iPhone not once but twice. AND he said the "new iphone unveiled next week." Awesome. Maybe it means Apple will unveil the iPhone Video at WWDC. I have faith in Mossberg.

However, I definitely do not have faith in Kathryn Huberty, a Morgan Stanley analyst that says it's likely Apple will also roll out a $99 iPhone. For one, she's got a bad reputation for being wrong when it comes to predicting Apple. Also, rumors of the $99 iPhone have been running around for a long time and we've still had no comment from Apple about it, so I don't think it's likely ... but if it were to go through (just to cover all my bases) it would probably be the 4GB low-end model we've heard about.

But don't hold your breath for it. You can for the new iPhone with Video ... but even if it came next week, that's still kind of a long time to hold your breath. We don't recommend it.
