RIM Patent Combines Capacitive and Resistive Touchscreens

There are significant advantages to the different kinds of touchscreens, resistive and capacitive. But with the majority of touchscreens appearing in phones, manufacturers have been leaning towards capacitive screens, despite the higher price, because they are friendlier to fingers and few people want to fiddle with a stylus anymore.
It looks like RIM has gotten tired of needing to choose one or the other and has decided to give us the best of both worlds. RIM, the maker of BlackBerry phones, has filed a patent (yet to be approved) for a type of screen that combines both capacitive and resistive technology.
Obviously, this has led to speculation over RIM’s plans for touchscreen BlackBerrys, possibly even a Storm 3.
