Spec Details on Next Gen iPhone Abound
The current iPhone does almost everything--from Youtubing to managing a fantasy football team to calculating body mass index to Skyping... etc. ad infinitum etc. Despite its many abilities, the current generation of iPhone does lack a few features. Details are dropping like crazy regarding the new feature set of the iPhone 3.0. Expect the next generation to have better wifi, radio, camera and software options. We already know that the next incarnation of the iPhone will run on iPhone OS 3.0. It'll probably cost a pretty penny too. Last weekat CTIA, we learned that Skype is coming to the iPhone. Today there a few new developments on the future iPhone's specs. The coolest:
- 3.2 megapixel camera
- FM radio
Everybody complains about the current camera on the iPhone--a prestigous omniphone deserves more than 2 megapixels. Edible Apple reported that Apple has recently purchased 3.2 sensors for this Summer's iPhone. Given the anticipated video recording abilities on the new iPhone, the MP increase is good news for cell phone photographers. Even more interesting, rumors of a 5MP camera for the iPhone corroborate the iPhone Pro rumors that have been around for ages.
I'm most delighted to see that Apple is finally putting an FM tuner in their iDevices. Finally I can listen to real time news instead of relying on podcasts.
Additionally, there's speculation about onboard video editing software being featured on the future iPhone and they're upgrading its wifi chip. Sounds like the iPhone is really coming of age as the Swiss Army Knife of the era of information. I'm just hoping they'll throw in a bottle opener and a nail file.
Look for the new and improved iPhone sometime around June. Check out our reviews of the current iPhone on our mobile site.
