The Samsung Android Phone Pic and Specs Leaked
We've been excited to hear more from Samsung ever since they committed to producing three Android phones this year. While the latest news didn't officially come from Samsung, we're just as willing to accept leaked info. A blog accidentally posted information on the S8000 and some enterprising Android fans managed to catch it before it was taken down. And boy, are we glad they did because the specs have us all excited. The Android Guys posted the leaked specs along with a picture that may or may not resemble grainy teaser pics we've seen before. Either way it doesn't matter because it looks pretty good, albeit just the same as every touchscreen phone that's been coming out lately. But the looks aren't nearly as impressive as the specs. If all this turns out to be true, the S8000 will be sporting 2GB internal memory, a microSD card slot, DivX support and a 5MP camera with flash. And that's not even including the 3.1-inch AMOLED screen (we love AMOLED!).
Here are all the specs as they were reported:
- 3.1? AMOLED display, WVGA, 16 million colors
- 5 MP camera with flash
- FM radio
- 2GB internal memory/microSD slot
- 3.5mm jack
- 3G, Wi-Fi, GPS with A-GPS, Bluetooth 2.1 and USB
- Quad band GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850/900/1800/1900 MHz)
- Dual band UMTS (900/2100 MHz)
- DivX and XviD video capable
Pretty impressive, nay? There's no talk of release date yet, but a Russian site was offering the device for pre-order at 470 Euros (about $619). That offer has since been removed. Hopefully when this thing does ship we'll see some good subsidized S8000s from the networks because we'd really like to see some cheaper Android phones to compete with the G1.
