Zune Phone Update: Probably Not
Well, we mentioned yesterday that rumors are flying both ways about the impending reality and complete unfeasibility of a Zune phone. We said we wouldn't be surprised either way, but new "evidence" seems to point to the impossibility side. Various reasons for the Zune phone being unlikely have made themselves known, including:
- "No Zune phone at CES" -Brian Seitz, Zune Group Manager
- Project Pink apparently has something to do with Zune-like services for Windows Mobile, and not Zune hardware
- "Unlikely that Microsoft will take on its own partners with a competing product"
- Politics (and we're not talking about Pres. Elect Obama's jogging music)
So there you have it. Though we're still not completely ruling out a Zune Phone, we're guessing it is probably as likely as Steve Ballmer wearing the black mock turtleneck. Zune Xbox or Zune-like capabilities on other phones, maybe even a gaming device? Still pretty unlikely, like Steve Ballmer wearing a pink mock turtleneck.
